Boy or
boy. Web TV is fine for a cheap way to surf the net and e-mailing back and
forth to friends, but not for writing long stories.
Sunday morning came and it was time for breakfast and a ghost town tour
to the West in the Mac Grueder Mountains.
As I was finishing up talking with friends in the dining room, another
friend of mine showed up. Dennis Smith came through the hall door and said
hello and mentioned he bumped into someone in Tonopah who followed him out
to see Gold Point and would like to introduce me to him.
Well
what a surprise! I was introduced to none other than Wyatt Earp.
That’s right
people you read it correctly. The great Wyatt Earp’s great grand-nephew.
Wow! He was with his
wife Terry Earp. They were in the area because they were going to do a
show in Tonopah. Their show is a stand-up one hour speech/history like Hal
Holbrook does Mark Twain. Wyatt does his great great uncle Wyatt Earp and
Terry does big nose Kate. Doc Holidays girlfriend.
They were out with
Norman Lee Hoggett and his wife. Norman wrote the book “On the trail of
Wyatt Earp.” Which traces the travels of Wyatt Earp throughout the Old
West.
After following Norman’s suggestion to swear in Wyatt as a special deputy
of Gold Point, I went over to talk to Terry to find Out more information
about their show. I asked if they would like come back Out after their
show in Tonopah and have dinner and stay the night.
They
had a long drive to get back to Phoenix the next day. I inquired as to
what it would take to get her and Wyatt to do a performance for my friends
and guests later that night. Terry told me to ask Wyatt if you would like
to do Doc Holiday. He loves performing Doc Holiday but doesn’t get the
chance as often as he likes. I did and to my surprise he agreed. Boy, was
I floating. This was going to be a
great night in the saloon.
I went
on with the ghost town tour to the West...
I stopped
and showed the placer mining operation in Tule Canyon and then up to an
old cabin in the trees. Over to the top of a cliff called Big Moly we
enjoyed the view looking straight down Death Valley. Then over to Log
Springs area where Tug Boat Annie had a cabin way back when.
Through Pigeon Springs Canyon back out to the highway, and back to Gold
Point to get the barbie ready for dinner time.
Just as
dinner was about to be served, the Blue Canyon Gang did a show.
They surprised me be putting me on trail for something I didn’t do and it
ended up in a big shoot out. I, of course, was left standing.
Dinner was served. Tri-tip marinated for four days in soy sauce, orange
juice and pineapple juice. Mmmm yummny to the tummy. Baked potato. corn on
the cob and cupcakes rounded out the meal.
Then it was time for the saloon again. I didn’t tell anyone of the
surprise that was about to happen.
Wyatt
and friends came back from their performance in Tonopah and had their meal
after everyone else had gone to the saloon.
Showtime! Norman introduced Wyatt and Terry and set up the scene, so to
speak.
They
did their show separately. Terry wrote the script for both the 55 minute
orations. I won’t go into detail. It’s impossible to explain.
For 2
hours I was quiet as a mouse as they spoke. Norman filmed it and has
promised me a copy. Anyone wishing to view it after I receive it, will
have to come to Gold Point.
Afterward, Norman had for sale, copies of his book, which Wyatt
autographed for everyone who purchased a copy. Norman also donated part of
the proceeds back to Gold Point, which is going to the restoration of the
old fire trucks.
It was quite the end to a remarkable weekend party in Gold Point.
I could go on forever telling what happened. The only thing left to say,
is someday you’ll have to experience it for yourself.
As time is short, and I have to get out of Vegas to Gold Point, to prepare
for a lot of visitors and guests, I’m not going to do issue #3 right now.
When I get back from my extended stay in Gold Point I will write it.
The next 3 day party in Gold Point is this coming Labor Day Weekend. We
will have live entertainment again and ghost town tours in the daytime.
Anyone wishing more
information just write or call 775-482-4653. See you thar.
Hope you all enjoyed the story.
The End of Gold
Point Gleamings #2. Really!!!
