Hi! I found your town by looking at topographic maps. Further research showed that a few people still live there and that you have personally restored many of the buildings. I plan on visiting your town either tomorrow or the next day 12/31/09. I am very interested in old mines and would like to know if you permit visitors to safely explore at their own risk any of the MANY abandoned mines that dot the area. Please let me know. Would also enjoy seeing some of the restored and not-so-restored buildings, too. Let me know.... Thanks!

HI Sheriff, Wish we could make it to your fine town for Thanksgiving this year, but our RV club is expecting us at their event in Parker, AZ. But we'll keep it in mind for next year. We were the 3 dirt bikers in the pearl-colored Suburban w/bikes on trailer a week or so ago. We had a great ride that day and only wished we had more daylight available. We missed the Empress Mine, but will do that one next time too. I can see there are LOTS of nice jeep roads and trails to explore in your area, and we all agreed we want to return to ride it further. It was very nice to get to meet you and to stroll around Gold Point seeing all the neat "stuff"! Carol Wiesner Sunday, November 15, 2009 - Pacific Time 20:53:01

Great story. Last year while heading to my mothers in CA we came unexpectely through your town (what a pleasant surprise). I had no idea the town existed. Unfortunetly I was running way behind schedule so only had timne for a quick drive down a few streets. I hope to get back through there next year. I found out about the web site through the article in rv journal. We love to see rural America being saved. As we travel the country (especially this past 10 or so years), we are saddened to see every town looking the same. Old buildings are getting torn down & it's hard now to remember a town, because of it's lack of a unique "look". I wish you all the best in your unique adventure .

Really enjoyed my stay at Gold Point for the Clamper's TRASH Trek over the weekend of July 16-19. Just as I thought, I gained about 4 pounds from all the good food you served. You have a fantastic operation going for you. Hope you can continue till all the buildings are fixed up! Sunday, July 26, 2009 - Pacific Time 23:20:22 - Sacramento, Calif.
Sheriff Stone's comments: glad you liked it. don't forget memorial day weekend then. |

great site! I used to deliver oxygen to slim daniels, Karen, his other half used to cook at the cottontail and I would call over there before I went out to make sure slim was home. I've often wondered if Karen stay'd on after Slim past a way. Slim had a pretty decent place. Apparently he also had a cabin up higher somewhere that used to belong to an uncle, I think he used to stay up there when it got hot. I often wondered if his uncle was an old timer around that country and maybe slim got some of his claims and property from him. I didn't know much about him and never would have asked. He always had a cold beer and a bucket of dirt for me when I cam out.I would run the dirt through my sluice back home and never failed to get a few colors! I had a standing invitation to come out for a few days to see the sights of old camp, the upper cabin and a bit of prospecting via the old dodge power wagon he had. My dad and grandpa used to lease some and do contract work in that country in the late 50s. They were contract miners, mostly working in White Pine and Eureka counties , they also sold powder and blasting supplies all over the state. The very best of luck to you , Mitch Robison Bishop Ca. I was there with a group from the Las Vegas Hiking and Outdoors Meetup Group last weekend for the Memorial Day festivities, and had so much fun! I can't remember ever having such a unique experience. We camped up on the ridge, with a beautiful view of the town and the valley. Thank you so much, Sheriff Stone, for your amazing hospitality and your gracious welcome. The food was excellent, the music and shootouts very entertaining, and a good time was had by all! We will definitely be back next year!!

Sheriff Stone: My wife and I are rock hunters. Is Gold Point a good base camp to find various rocks? What type are available? Can you tell me anything about a place just North of Goldfield called GemField? Thanks very much.
Friday, April 17, 2009 - Pacific Time 19:40:20 - Vancouver, Wa USA
Sheriff Stone's comments: we have apache tears, trilobites, petrefied wood, geodes and just plain rocks around us. don't know much about what kind of gems are at the goldfield gemfield but people go there all the time. try googling it. |

April 2009 - Just visited Gold Point for a second time. Guess I didn't look around enough. Great place, great job! One thing I could not find was the Hot Springs/water falls near by. A gentleman in Gold Point pointed to a MT. and said it was about 30 or 40 minutes down a dirt road but not a good day to take that trip. Never saw any signs to where it might be. Would appreciate any information/directions you could provide. Thanks. Sunday, April 5, 2009 - Pacific Time 12:12:33 - Las Vegas
Sheriff Stone's comments: it is on the north end of stonewall mountain. we've counted as many as forty big horn sheep and the water fall area. it is on maps but there are no signs on the road showing where it is. |

Howdy Sheriff. Met your wife at a Beatty saloon last night and she told me about your web site. She was in the company of several heavily armed men which kept the local yahoos in check. Will get out to see you one of these days. Will be adding a link to your web site at mine.
