It has been a few years since I camped at Gold Point with a couple of other desert rat photographers. We had a blast and I added a gallery on my web site at that time. We want to explore some more in the hills, so we will be back.

Dear Herb and Sandy, My three kids and I can't thank you enough for your kindness and hospitality. Gold Point is a must stop for anyone who is interested in the Old West and mining. Have been researching places in Nevada that share the old west history to visit, camp at,learn about, take pictures and explore the back country with our small group of ohv enthusiasts, I think we need to put Gold Point on our list. I have several newspaper clipping stating that my grandfather, Raymond Derouin, worked at the "Deep Mines" operation in 1947. He was unfortunatly killed in that mine in a mucking machine accident in August of that year. Maybe someone out there has a little more info to share with me??? And if any ghost hunters run into him at night please tell him his grandaughter says "Hi!" Thanks

In April, 2001, while on a week-long run around CA and NV in a rented Jeep, the wife and 2 kids and I came across Gold Point on a "ghost town" hunt. It turned out to be very occupied and interesting, The miners cabins were in the process of being renovated, and we have always wanted to come back to the area, and stay for a couple of days as part of another trip. The kids are now grown and gone (presently S Korea, and London), so we would have a much more casual 50-something attitude about things. Glad to see you are still making a go of it. Rode my hot rod hardly dangerous motorcycle up there last Saturday to see my friend Maria sing and play. My first trip and I was only going to stay for a couple or three hours. On our first visit to Gold Point in March 2011 we met Dan as we drove into town and had a wonderful talk with him. Then Walt opened the saloon and the post office for us and then the Sheriff himself sat with us at the picnic table and helped us plan our trip for the rest of the day. Great town and great people. Looking forward to a return visit soon.

I just visited this site and it brought back memories. If you recall, I once went to a stream in the foothills with you and Gus. I will never forget the bats that attacked us.
