Dear Sandy and Herb, Thank you, SOOO much, for a fabulous weekend!!!! You are wonderful hosts and it was so nice to get to bed early, kick back, be waited on, eat great food, and see beautiful country!!! Your Town is Fantastic; we hope you can restore much more of it!!!! Polly says "thank you", also...you were so kind, in letting her be a part of everything! We pray to return soon! We got to Stateline, and did lots of exploring; does someone live in the cabin there, or do folks just visit it??? We want to explore that entire area one day! And travel as much as possible on the dirt "back roads"!! Again, thank you, and God bless you, Connie, Dennis, and Polly Saturday, May 3, 2008 - Pacific Time 09:02:51

Hello there we were there June of 2007 and it was totally dead, kinda freaky actually. I knocked on the saloon door like 3 times and no answer, I am sad to hear all these good comments and we didn't get to experience anything, maybe if we ever get that way again someone will be there to greet us and show us around.

Sheriff Stone and Red Dog Lil, We rode into town with the outlaw Phil Kember last week. I'm sorry that we missed you, but Walt was a great host in the saloon. The group had a fun morning photographing the buildings and Americana. Kudos to you for the restoration on Gold Point. Your hard work and dedication are evident. Sly's experience at Gold Point, NV Yesterday: As Dan & I were passing the Cotton Tail Ranch he phone to let um know we were coming in. I heard Sandy ask "Are ya hungry" to which I yelled "Hell yes!". When reaching the front door the yummy smells of Sandy's breakfast beckoned me to hurry! We had drove 97 miles and I had not yet even had my morning coffee. Sandy had everything nicely ready though we were late... A most delicious breakfast and good coffee. Than a sample of Herb's yummy ice cream (oh my!). There were two kinds brought out; Vanilla and a berry I had not heard of. Both were extremely delicious! I also had that delicious berry jelly on my toast. Dang, I want some more now! Umm, maybe Gold point should sell that wonderful jelly. Also at the table sit Alan Patera, author of 'Hornsilver/Gold Point Nevada'. Dan got me his book and I had everyone there sign it. There were two other men there but I can't recall their names at this moment. But one let me wear his way cool hat. I do remember that they were from Oregon. Then I was shown some of the cabins. They are most delightful and welcoming. But more funnier than that was I got to play on & in the fire trucks!!! I played with the air horn in one and was sad when I could not find the horn in another fire truck. But soon Dan came to my rescue and seeing my dilemma, showed me that the horn was in the middle of the steering wheel. Now why didn't I think of that! There happened to be many people coming and going this particular day. I was taken to the Saloon next, which if I remember correctly, was once the Post office. I was there given 2 vaccinations of Southern Comfort and a Bud. During this another most pleasant surprise! Gloria showed up!!! Gloria (Clark) Pope had lived there as a child and had wonderful stories to be told! Her father Wynton Clark had once been the Deputy Sheriff there. I asked her to sign my new book and she did and added some history also. Than we sat on the porch and I was wishing for a hammock so I could take my much needed nap as I had been a very busy girl with little sleep. Around 4 was dinner time! Sandy had made a HUGH Kettle of Chicken Dumplings! Yummy! Gloria was also invited and was given the head of the table to sit. What a wonderful women as was the rest that sat around this big table. For dessert Herb's most excellent Ice Cream! Not just the berry and vanilla as before but chocolate also!!! Everyone there was most wonderful and the food was excellent! I took close to 70 photos and well post some later on my myspace page later Born_Sly. I mentioned to Dan that it would be nice for Gold Point to have it's own myspace page so folks like me could also add photos of their adventure there. And it is indeed an adventure! Sly had a most wonderful time at Gold Point, NV and was made to feel right at home. ~ Sunday, August 19, 2007 - Pacific Time 12:42:23 - Death Valley

Doyle Cornelius told me about your town and web page as he was leaving to visit you for the weekend. You have really done a fine job with both the web page, but more importantly with the preservation of an important Nevada historical site. I look forward to comming down there for a visit and good chow. Thanks for all you are doing.

we visited late one evening on our way to stay in goldfield. Great hospitality. they let us into the bar to look around. we then drove to ststeline( a ghost town 5 miles over the hill) and got stranded for a brief period during the night, but as i have frequently visited ghost towns in the area, we got unstuck from the rock and a long dirve back to gold point in the dark and on to goldfield, but really this is an awswome place and the whole area is a place to be visited by the whole family. can't waith to get back in the fall and actually stay in gold point.

For folks interested in paleontology, I have a web page dedicated to the fabulous 520 million year-old fossils that can found in the vicintity of Gold Point, Nevada. It's called "Early Cambrian Fossils In Western Nevada" and can be found over at http://members.aol.com/Waucoba7/gp/goldpoint.html . The Gold Point fossil field is a world-famous area that yields the single largest assemblage of Early Cambrian trilobites--an extinct order of arthropods distantly related to horsehoe crabs and pill bugs--yet discovered from a specific geologic rock depsosit in North America.

great town and i love the isolation. getting there on a motorcycle is an added benefit. but $100 a nite for a cabin with no tv, no running water, what the hell is that all about?
Sunday, December 10, 2006 - Pacific Time 12:10:13 - gold hill oregon
Sheriff Stone's comments: since you asked let's try to answer the best we can. 1st-we have vcr movies in the cabins if one has the time. 2nd-running water is in one cabin. because of the large cost of installation and maintenance during the winter months and lack of room in the cabins we can't put water in all of them. 3rd-we have spent thousands of dollars on each cabin to fix up for people to stay in and be comfortable. one cabin took 11,000 dollars and we only have done 5 out of 11. 4th-we have to drive at least 120 miles round trip to purchase the food guests would be eating. 200 miles round trip for the building supplies. 5th-as we have done our homework we are well below other b & b's that have running water. i could go on but i won't. i will add that if you check out the website again and read sheriff stone's quest to preserve gold point it might help out more to understand. i sincerly hope that this helps you understand the cost. we are not in this for the money. we are in it to preserve our american history. with each guest we come a little closer. thank you for your comment. |

Hey Herbalious, Sandy, and Pat, Once again had a great time. Thanks for all the good laughs and great food. Next time don't cook so much. Yes, your french fries were great....but I still like In N' Out fries no matter what you say! Pat's purple hooters and coyote slammers were the best. And even though you say you don't cook, your ribs were AWESOME! I couldn't believe we saw that many long horned sheep or what ever they are called and the cute burros. (them donkey lookin things) Can wait to come again. Thanks for making my last week of summer the best. LOVE YA'LL Saturday, August 19, 2006 - Pacific Time 09:04:32 - San Lorenzo, California
